Martin Luther King Jr Biography
The human life is short and a man lives for certain period only. However, there are many men who have made themselves immortal in the annals of the world by virtue of their great contribution to the world and also to the country to which they specifically belong. Martin Luther King, the father as well as the founder of modern human rights movement.
He was the champion of human right movement and was highly awarded with the highest civilian award of the world, the Nobel Peace Prize. He was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta in Georgia. He was born to Negro parents The Reverend and Mrs. Martin Luther King, Sr. However, he was blessed with the highest qualities of mind and soul. He was baptized as Michael Luther King, but he changed his name from Michael to Martin.
Education
Martin was educated at segregated public schools in Georgia. He was a very sharp students and he completed his graduation degree in 1948 at the age of 15 years. He studied three years in the Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania. He got the B.D. award in 1951 and the first Doctorate degree in 1955. In the midst of these studies, he got many scholarships that brought him a distinction from other students of his grade.
Family
In 1953, he met Coretta Scott and married her. She was a lady with unparallel intellectual qualities. Later Martin and Coretta Scott were blessed with two daughters and equal number of sons. The Martin family was an extremely happy family where people were much exposed towards the greatest human qualities of heart and soul. In the meanwhile, the political activities had already started in the life of Martin Luther King as he had started showing his deepest concerns over the conditions of the colored people from all over the United States of America.
Achievements
Martin Luther King was largely trusted by dint of his noble ideas and that is why he graced many prestigious posts during his life time which were of great importance. He was appointed as a member of the National Association of Advancement of Colored People. He was made the President of the South Christian Leadership Conference. He influenced everyone by his unparallel wit and fighting spirit. However, his work for the well-being of the colored people in the entire world made his more popular globally. His speeches were great in every manner and that is why some of his speeches are regarded as assets. At the age of 35 years, he became the youngest person to get the highly prestigious Nobel Peace Prize. It is worth mentioning that Martin was highly impressed by Gandhi’s idea and practice of Non-violence. Once his visit to India, he described his journey as his spiritual journey to the land of Gandhi. Martin was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
