When Did The Term "Racist" Turn Into A Political Tactic?

I had always thought that being a racist was a bad thing. The dictionary defines a racist as someone who expresses "hatred or intolerance of another race or races." In my understanding, a racist considered a certain set of people to ALL have the same negative or undesirable characteristics, without exception. Hate, intolerance, stereotyping some people as being all the same without considering, respecting, and celebrating the individual, all very nasty stuff.But now I am not so sure my understanding of what constitutes a racist is correct any more. These days, it seems you are a racist by simply disagreeing with someone, especially if you disagree with a politician. The purpose of this rally is to restore the principles this country was founded on, namely truth, honor and integrity. It is also to honor those men and women in the armed forces and other notable citizens that embody these virtues.The rally was also controversial though. Anger is not my favorite topic. I don't think this is because I am an angry person, resisting a subject that might hook into my own issues. Its just that the subject of anger seems so dull, so elementary. I like to be creative, to think about cutting edge issues, to anticipate the future. Like every counselor, I learned about anger in Psychology . Why spend much more time on something so basic? Today, people may express their anger in ways that are different from those of the past. Some popular talk shows pull out the voyeurism in viewers and let them watch angry outbursts on TV. But isnt anger such a basic topic that we could leave it in our introductory counseling courses? In the United States, the month of December is the Christmas Season, not the Holiday Season. To the best of my knowledge there is only one holiday in December recognized by our government. December was made a legal holiday in order to celebrate the birth of Christ. There are no other legal holidays during the month of December. Chanukah, Hannukah, or Hanukah is a celebration and, some say, a Jewish Holiday but it is not a legal holiday. Kwanza is a celebration and not a legal holiday. Christmas Eve is not a day and New Years Eve is not a day. We don't call the month of May, the Holiday Season, even though that's when Memorial Day is celebrated. On Martin Luther King Day we don't have holiday parades, we have Martin Luther King Day parades. We don't say happy holiday on the Fourth Of July, we say Happy Independence day or Happy Fourth Of July. Young members of the Seattle chapter of Youth for Human Rights International YHRI are working to make human rights a fact in their city, with a human rights education campaign and petition drive to support the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Last month, on the Martin Luther King Day of Service, members of the group came out in force to show their commitment to the purpose of this special holiday and to bring their human rights message to people in their city. In Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, designating the King Holiday as a national day of volunteer service. Instead of a day off from work or school, Congress asked Americans of all backgrounds and ages to celebrate Dr. King's legacy by turning community concerns into citizen action.
